The D+D REAL Czech Challenge tournament is moving from May and June to October
The D+D REAL Czech Challenge, professional golf tournament from the Challenge Tour series, is changing its date. Instead of the original turn of May and June, it will only take place at the beginning of October, specifically from October 2 to 5, 2024.
The oldest Challenge Tour tournament on the Czech territory awaits its twelfth year this year. The first seven took place on Kunětická hora, from where the tournament moved to Kaskáda for one year. After a one-year covid break, the tournament returned to Kuňka for two years, last year it was played in Kácov.
“We regret that we have to move the tournament to the autumn date, but now it is not certain that the course would be in the necessary condition for the tournament. In addition, the Ladies European Tour tournament is being played in Beroun three weeks after us, and if we had insisted on the original date, the course would undergo another heavy load, which would be critical for him for the rest of the season. That’s why we agreed on this solution even after consulting with the people from the Challenge Tour,” says Petr Dědek Jr. from the company Relmost, which organizes Challenge Tour tournaments and D+D REAL Czech Masters from the DP World Tour series too.
The reason for the postponement of the tournament is the current condition of the course at the Royal Beroun Golf Club, the deterioration of which can be attributed to the extremely unfavorable weather in April with high temperature fluctuations, which were deadly for the growth of grass. The pitch must now recover and gain strength again so that it can serve not only professional but also amateur players for the rest of the season.
“Although the pitch is in a condition where a regular competitive round can be played on it, we understand the reputational concerns of the organizers of such a high-ranking tournament. Moreover, we have agreed on a long-term cooperation and it would be foolish to jeopardize it in the first year. However, we believe that already in during May, the greens will be in a condition that will be close to the one our members are used to, especially from last year,” said Vojtěch Matějček, president of the Royal Beroun Golf Club.
The postponement of the tournament has one positive effect on the entire event, and that is the fact that it will become part of the final stage of the entire Challenge Tour season. The D+D REAL Czech Challenge will conclude the European part of the tournaments, after which only two events in China and the final of the entire series in Mallorca will come. The second Challenge Tour tournament in the Czech Republic, Kaskáda Golf Challenge, will take place on the original date from June 13 to 16.
